This has probably been asked before but will a player with 4 talent but low skills play better than a 2 talent with high skills?

Not immediately, but the more talented player will ultimately have a higher rating as he gains more experience in a given position (often called BPOS on here) and his skills will cap at a higher level (18 for a 4* player cf 14 for a 2*)

This is the bit I struggle with the most. Having a young player who has intelligence, consistency, speed, but you know because of his talent he'll never be great. I hate letting them go. Hate it.

then don't
i mean if he's a 0.5 talent kinda guy.. then fire him.
but everything above 2 stars is good enoughto get you to the higher divisions. there's not that big a difference between a 2.5 star and a 4 star talented guy. the second guy can have half a star mor rating. that's it. don't fire the guy if all other skills are good /great.
