if a player isnt worth 3k then pointless having him on the market for some new team to buy.

I don't agree. Many of the players on my roster now were purchased for $1000 when I was fairly new to the game. Speed and strength were low, but with patience, I've trained them up and several should be starters for me for quite some time.
At the time, I was controlling my transfer spending by only purchasing players at $1000. I would fire any with 2* or lower talent. Later on, I sold or fired all that had 2.5* or 3* talent. Anybody could have outbid me for those players, and at the time, I wouldn't have spent over $1000 on them. So, at the time of purchase, they weren't worth $3000, but I'm sure they would be worth far more than that now.
I you don't want to sell your players for less than $3000, that's OK and it's your prerogative. I do think it's worth it to put those types of players on the market to potentially help new teams get some decent players cheap.
Now that I've said that, I should include this disclaimer. Not all players I place on the market may be useful. On occasion, I may place a low talent player with decent skills if I think he will sell for $4000 or more. Many are using the market solely as a money maker, I don't see any problem with trying to make a few bucks myself. But again, if he only sells for $1000, or doesn't sell at all, I'm not going to miss $2500 here or there. If I get to that point, I'll likely be bankrupt soon anyway.

i dont totally disagree with u, i have done the same for most players i bought.
only players i have sold are ones i thought would help some new player.
i have just sold a 2.5* LB that could have gone for the 3k i marketed him for but went for 250k. i could market for 1k and lose money that i dont need but that extra 2k isnt going to destroy a team looking for players either.

the tax is based on the number of weeks the player has been at the club

i sell all my players for $1000
most players will generally all sell for their value
if a player only sells for $1000, he prob wasn't great to start with...
