How big a penalty is there for playing a guy both ways? On offense and defense?
Does he need a certain level of stamina?

The biggest penalty is stamina, as well as the fact that one of the 2 positions wouldn't be his natural. But if he has high stamina it could be worth it.
Personally, I don't do it, because I've won some games in the 4th due to having more stamina left.
As for how much stamina they need, I'm not real sure.

And the other penalty is no one knows which position he gets exp for when playing both ways, I think Squish or someone had a guy play both ways that flopped positions.

and by sit through he means silently mouthing the words along with it, trying to pawn it off as nonchalant disinterest until the end where he jumped up and yelled NOBODY PUTS MY BABY IN A CORNER
