I just noticed that nobody in the Top Division has a completely built stadium. Furthermore, most players in the top division leave many empty seats when they play matches.

Does this mean there is a point (probably somewhere around 70kish seats) where it is detrimental to continue upgrading your stadium? Basically, should I plan on aiming for any specific number of seats as I progress in my construction projects?

I never understood the huge stadiums. If the basic attendance for the top division is 60k, even a 10% bonus for first place only put attendance at 66k. There might be some bonus for form and there is always randomness, but I'd think you'd want to max out somewhere between 60-70k. Upkeep gets expensive for unused seats, and the more regular seats you have, the more you water down attendance in your exec and VIP seats.

I'm in Div IV and I'm planning on maxing out a little over 40k in seats.

Good

Even in div 3 if you win enough games continuously you should be able to sell a stadium the size of my stadium out. (almost 63k seats)
The number of seats you can sell depends a lot on where you think you would end each season. The first few games of the season, you sell fewer tickets than as the season progresses.
The max "swing" is 40%. So 10% over the base attendance is a very very very conservative estimate

So would 84k be roughly the max amount of seats that will ever sell out in a league game (assuming top division and the "maximum swing"? I'm guessing that building 3500 VIPS, 9000 EXECS, and 70000 regular seats (in 2 blocks of 35000 seats) is the maximum strategy for construction if that is correct?

yup 84k in a league game
but you might wanna keep building every time you promote or every season(based on the base seats for your division) rather than wait till you have enough cash for 35000 regular seats .The best time to upgrade beyond the base number for a division is during the season when you have 2 away games, the next best being the offseason.

Nah, I sold out at the end of last season with nearly 100k.

Around 40% can economy model, weather and team form add to base attendance. 54k x 1.4 = 75,6k

That was for div 2 though

Unless you're a team that has a chance at an AFLC bid, capping at 84k or whatever is probably fine. I only get more than that in the last rounds of the Cup and the end of the season in TD when I play another top team. If I win the league or the Cup this season, I'll expand my stadium again before my AFLC matches next season, though. Otherwise I'll keep it where it is now.

I'll just quickly hijack this thread to ask a related question.

I'm just about to finish all VIP and exec seats, but i'm in Div 5 and dont have a hope of promoting this season and maybe not next (as i'm still trying to work out the 'game' side of the game) but I was wondering, does anyone have an estimate of what divisions give what economically optimal stadium size?

I.e. should i continue to improve my stadium before I promote?

If not, what should i spend my new-found wealth on? I have full fitness stadium and coach. Should I start actually trying to find and/or train good players?

Cheers

Base attendance for div 5 is 36,000... And then all bonuses are added to (or taken away from) that number... I'd say its definitely safe to add a whole block of regular seats in div 5 (I plan on doing so before I promote at least)

But as to the best method for spending your money, I'm not really sure... If you are a patient person, then increasing your stadium to build cash stores is prob the best route... If not, you can invest in your players to promote more quickly
