Field Goal Distance

Hello to all,

I really need someone to explain to me the distance for the field goal...

I'm on 4th down, at 80 years from my own end-zone. In my game instructions, I required to kick a field goal if the distance is < 35 yards.
But my team goes for the punt in that case...

I guess there is a distance from the goal-line to the posts (8 yards ?), then a distance from the line of scrimmage to the place where the ball is placed (5 yards ?)... but this is still under 35 yards...

Thanks

Mat

+10 yards Endzone
+ 7 yards drop back of ball

-> so its distance to goal + 17 yards

In your case -> Ball at 80 = 20 Yards + 17 Yards = 37 Yards FG try

Righto.

Hmm..they should probably let you select the field goal range instead of where you attempt a field goal from to avoid so much confusion. For most football fans, it'd be obvious, but since it's not in the FAQs, new teams wouldn't know unless they read here..

Then people will be attempting FG from the 40 yard line and wonder why the kicker keeps missing these chip shots, when really they are 57 yard attempts.

Sorry mate, but when you choose <40m distance, it has already taken the 17 yrds into account. So actually they are kicking at 40 but the line of scrimmage is on the 77 yrd mark.

So, just to clarify:
1) If I I think the maximum effective range for my kicker is 37 yards, I should set the "On 4th down punt or attempt a field goal" to "If distance <20 yards".

2) If I also don't want to punt from my opponent's 20-30 yard line, I should set "Unless yards left" to "<=30" and "On 4th and" to "5".

no if you think he can make 37 yarders you should set it at either 35 or 40 but remember that a 37 yard field goal attempt will comme from a 4th and x at the xxx80 yard line

Thanks. Glad I asked, I had it completely backwards!
