I am going to make a forthright statement here so please bare with me. I understand that this is open for discussion and that is fine with me but please keep in mind that I am a new player and I have taken into account everything I see when watching/playing football. Also please keep in mind that I have not seen anyone else but this information out there and if I am the first one then keep in mind that I had he stones to do so. That being said, my bold statement is here is what I believe each position needs skill wise. What I mean is which skill is the most important for each position. My guidelines for my decisions are based on the following interpretations of skills:

Positioning- Being in the right sport at the right time. Being able to put oneself in the best position to make the best play

Vision- Being able to see what is happening around you

Intelligence- Knowing what is happening around you. Being able to make quick decisions and having an understanding of what is happening in the game. Also it includes an anticipation factor of knowing what is supposed to happen

Footwork- Acceleration! Having a quick first step and being able to reach top speed quickly. Being able to stay on ones feet and keep moving.

Carrying- holding on to the ball

Tackling- being able to take someone down

Blocking- how well one prevents someone from getting past you. Or on defense it is how well one gets though/past the line

Passing- throwing the ball

Catching- catching the ball

Kicking- includes field goals, PAT’s, and kickoff’s

Punting- includes punting the ball

Speed- how fast you are

Strength- how strong you are

Agility- how quickly you can makes cuts/jukes, being able to not get tripped up and stay on your feet

Stamina- how much energy you have and how quickly you can tire out

That being said below is my chart of what I believe to be the important skills for individual positions. They are listed on an A-F scale (just like in school). A being the best and most important skill for that position and F being not needed at all.

It's a great idea Kol Train. I admire you for having the time and willingness to right such an article.

Such threads do exist - If you look at the Announcement above this - Yet, they are not as in-depth as yours.

If you could make the layout a little bit better, somehow, I could possibly use this in the near future.

Kind Regards,

Guru.

I have a great excel sheet that has color and everything on it however I do not have time to fully add all the color and everything to this. Thats for the input. I will try to continue to clean this up.

No rush pal. No need to add colour either

Keep up the good work.

Hmmm...is footwork acceleration or more like the footwork that O-Linemen/Cornerbacks require to back pendle when pass blocking or in coverage as the case may be.

The back peadling seems more like agility to me. That's actually what I think of when I hear footwork, but but since they're both attributes on here and acceleration isn't, maybe football is acceleration.

see I agree more with steve, I think that footwork is placement of your feet for O-linemen and the back pedal ability of safety's and corners. I also think it would be used for lateral movement for LB's.

This is an interesting take on the skill sets. If you have an excel spreadsheet, I'd advise putting it up on Google docs and then putting a link up here for the rest of us to view.

I also am not sure about the blocking working to shed blocks for D-linemen. If this were true then O-lineman would only have one stat to try to keep d-lineman from making tackles while d-linemen get two to avoid blocks. it would seem to me to be extremely unbalanced if that is the case.
