Players being bought and then released?

Just starting to get into trying to buy ( low-end aka cheap) players, and I've noticed several occurrences of a players that I lose out on due to not wanting to bid too much getting won by some other team(s) and then the player gets released and "retires from professional football". Is this a prevalent thing in this game...are there team owners out there that intentional win player auctions just to release the player they just won?

I'm guessing this is most likely when a manager has taken a gamble on not scouting the player up front, and his talent rating has turned out to be lower than they were hoping for. If they didn't pay that much for him they may decide that releasing is an easier/less costly option than re-listing him on the transfer market. Either that or they've miscalculated on wages and want to get rid before the next financial update.

Just fishing looking for high talent

if the guy ends up being released you should be glad you didn't win the auction.

OR...

Could be someone buying up a high talent (but not National Team) player then releasing them in order to dilute the overall number of good players going around.

My transfer history is packed with these purchases when I was building the team. I would buy 2-5 players a day in hopes of getting a 4½ or 5 star player for a few bucks. If they did not have a talent above 3½, I would fire them, so the two answers above are spot on.

And to the OP, you should build, build and build before you venture into the transfer market.
