So in my friendly game today, something very strange seemed to be going on that I've never seen before....

My opponent lined up in a slightly unusual 4-3 defence, with a NT, DTL, DTR and DEL on the D Line. His DEL is a 4 star player, $2,668 salary and hasn't had a sack yet in 4 games this season.
Directly opposite him at RT, I had my highest salaried OL ($29,813) who has 18 Speed, 17 Str, 13 Blocking, 11 agility, 10 footwork, 11 stamina and 13 consistency) - he's a decent OL at my level and has played well for me in the past. In fact before this game I had him as my highest performing OL this season.
However in this game he got absolutely torn to SHREDS. Giving up 5 SACKS!!!, 4 pressures and several 0 yard runs to this apparent beast. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! My team has given up 2 sacks so far this season, yet here is this supposedly very average player making my best OL look like he's never stepped foot on a ball pitch before...

Does anyone have any idea what might have happened here? Could it be his unusual D-line formation? Has the match engine just decided my OL has been a naughty boy and deserved to be punished..? It was so bad the thought of cutting him crossed my mind on several occasions, but as he's been solid for me in the past I will give him a chance to redeem himself.

Any possible explanations very welcome!!

But still, even if they were spread evenly they shouldn't be getting 5 sacks. It's like his D-line formation somehow opened up an empty lane for the DEL to run straight at my QB every time...

Relax rule definitely had something to do with it, but I've never seen it affect one particular matchup so strongly like that. I'm going to try his D-line formation in my cup match tomorrow against a bot and see if I can get my DE 5 sacks

Haha my DEL didn't get any sacks, but he did get 10+ pressures, consistently ending their drives.
