I'm really struggling to develop a good TE

What do you go for in terms of Speed and Strength?

The rest I assume is catching and blocking?

I favour a 17/18 or 16/19 set up in favour of strength when training my tight ends. This is mostly because i do a lot of running and believe the high strength helps more with the high blocking stats. Its all about opinion though mate and no doubt alot of others go with 20/15, 19/16 or 18/17 in favour of speed.

I have a TE that I am very happy with, and he is trained in positioning, vision, catching, blocking, agility and stamina. And he has 17 speed and 18 strength.

I don't mean to say that you need all of this in a TE (not too sure about positioning and vision for example), but I do mean to say that if you build your TE like this I'm certain you'll be happy with him/her/it (gender neutrality ftw).

My experience is that TE's don't block - and why would you have blocking skills in the edge?

They need speed, catching and agility. And talent and consistency. That's all...

I do think they contribute on blocking. It is smaller than the OL but they have a bit of influence on it.

I have a nice TE that is not even a 35-physical-skilled player. But I managed to train many different skills as POS, VIS, CAT, BLK and FTW.

From my experience, the TE can be one of the most pivotal offensive positions in the G-I engine. They contribute to the run by blocking and also contribute to the pass game by being a receiver.

For those reasons, I have always trained my TE's to have the same skills as a WR and an OL. I have always had lots of success with TE's and have had several NT caliber TE's using this strategy. However, it is important to develop TE's from a young age to ensure you can reach maximum effectiveness in training all these skills.
