Well it looks like we will be playing each other in the qualifiers mrrich.

In the group with the UK are:-

The ever improving and under ranked Irish, previous winners and who came third last time out.

The under performing Russian team. But with what must be a healthy player pool and a 2 to 1 win loss ratio, they should not be taken lightly.

Ukraine who despite there lowly ranking beat the UK in qualifiers last season.

New Zealand usually the whipping boys due to lack of teams producing players but made it through to the group stage in WC19 with some decent management.

Our campaign does not start until a week tomorrow (01.09) when Ireland are our first opponents. With 17 new call ups and 2 recalls the squad is now a mix of youth and experience which I am hoping will take us back up to the 'top of the world'

Just losing a in the AFLC by one point with Dumbarajko Elephants scoring a TD with NO TIME left on the clock, serves to remind my just how small the margins are between winning and losing can sometimes be on GI, although I challenge anyone to find a closer match lol.

GO UK

That's not even funny, seriously the New Zealand team is in an awful state and a tell-tale sign that this game needs a radical shake up.

So..... we got our arses kick by the Irish so it's a question of trying to analyse the figures to see what went wrong.

There are some bazaar figures, 60% of our passing yards came from the three touchdown passes, which otherwise highlights a pretty poor performance from QB John James George whose completion percentage was a lowly 34%. May I say he played like a rookie. His only tactic seemed to be to throw high risk bombs downfield which against an elite defense really isn't going to work. Our offense just did not fire on all cylinders. As a result gave our defense was on the field a good deal of the time and I think performed OK. The O line could have played better and I might give it a tweek and our receivers also made good ground if a pass was caught.

The big question......is Cory set for a comback?

I don't think you have anything to worry about from New Zealand.

I'm not taking anything for granted, it is an uphill climb from here

In fairness I am pretty sure that tactic worked out fine against the defense I put out against the Russians. Plenty more football to go. This group will not be easy to get out of.

Thanks AbCat,

After finishing top of our qualifying group, expectations were high but not taking anything for granted.

It was a nervy first have for the UK with our offence getting stopped on the 88 yard line on a 2 yard forth down and Serbia scoring on every drive, long though they were. In the second half however the UK squad's fitness levels really started to tell. Two interceptions by our D and no giveaways by QB Corey, meant that our offense could take every advantage of good field position given to them by and excellent defensive performance with Serbia being restricted to two TD one of them in garbage time. Corey maintained the high level with which he burst out of retirement.

All in all a great start to WC group stage, one win under our belts and a healthy points difference should it be needed with two wins not being enough in itself like last WC.

Go UK...........
