Now that we've been told that BMI will be introduced in Season 25, I thought in might be beneficial to put some information in one thread to assist managers.

BMI

BMI stands for body mass index. It is essentially how a player’s weight is distributed over their height e.g. a player who is 5'5" and 200lbs would be considered overweight and a player who is 6'6" and 200lbs would be considered underweight.

Certain players may have a red question mark next to either their speed, strength or agility rating, this means that they are either under or over weight and cannot achieve their maximum skill rating. If it says to raise BMI the player needs to gain weight and if it says to lower BMI the player needs to lose weight. If strength is affected the player needs to gain weight and if speed/agility is affected the player needs to lose weight.

When BMI comes in to effect in the game engine in Season 25 affected players will play with lower physicals, as shown in the text box that appears when your mouse hovers over the red question mark. In Season 25 the highest combined total for physicals will be 36 (e.g. 20/15, 19/16, 18/17). Players with maximum caps in both physicals will no longer be 20/20 beasts!

The below table shows the BMI ranges required to achieve Strength and Speed of a particular level:

BMI table
BMI...Max SPD...Max STR
19........20......13
20........20......13
21........20......13
22........20......14
23........20......14
24........20......14
25........20......14
26........20......15
27........20......15
28........20......15
29........19......16
30........19......16
31........19......16
32........18......17
33........18......17
34........18......17
35........17......18
36........17......18
37........17......18
38........16......19
39........16......19
40........16......19
41........15......20
42........15......20
43........15......20
44........14......20
45........14......20
46........14......20
47........13......20

Agility has the same limit as speed, i.e. a player with a BMI of between 38-40 will only play with agility of 16 (if they've been trained that high). Please note the text box that appears when your mouse hovers over the red question mark for agility does not exactly say the lower value.

Example
A player has strength 17 but the red question mark says it is only 16, so we know that player needs to gain weight.

From the BMI table above, a player requires a BMI of 32-34 to have max strength of 17, the example player’s current BMI is 29.7.

So we know that players requires a minimum BMI of 32 to be at 17 strength.

To calculate the weight that players needs to be at the formula is

BMI Required x (height x height) divided by 703

NB. Height must be in inches ( e.g. 6'0" = 72, as 12 x 6 = 72)

32 x (72 x 72)/703
32 x 5184/703
165888/703

= 235.97

So our example player must be at a weight of 236 lbs to have 17 strength, as this will give him a BMI of 32. He already weighs 219lbs so he needs to gain 17lbs.

A much simpler way to calculate how much weight a player needs to gain/lose to reach the correct BMI is by using the BMI calculator on my Team Tracker spreadsheet

Nutrition Centre

Players can only gain/lose weight via the Nutrition centre.

The Nutrition centre can be accessed from the 'Club' tab and then be clicking on the 5th icon from the left (underneath the 'Community' tab).

There are 3 upgrades to the Nutrition Centre after the initial purchase. A fully upgraded Nutrition Centre allows you to weight train a maximum of 20 players in total.

The below table shows the cost and maintenance for each level:

Level ... No. of Players ... Cost ... Maintenance
1...................5.................$50,000......$8,000
2...................10................$50,000......$18,000
3...................15................$50,000......$28,000
4...................20................$50,000......$38,000

Please note there is currently no maintenance charge for the Nutrition Centre as BMI wasn't previously introduced into the game as originally planned. However it seems extremely likely that the maintenance charge will come into effect in Season 25. It may be beneficial to build a Nutrition Centre immediately to benefit from the free maintenance until the end of the season.

If you need to sell your Nutrition centre you will be offered 50% of the purchase price i.e. $100k for a fully upgraded Nutrition Centre (cost $200k).

Players in the Nutrition Centre can gain up to 8lbs and lose as much as 8lbs. You can also select a player to keep their current weight. This is useful for players who are prone to weight loss or weight gain (as indicated on their player page) as these types of players will gain/loss a few lbs every week. It's also worth remembering that every player not in the Nutrition Centre has the possibility of gaining or losing weight each week, but this does tend to be a small amount (e.g. +/- 1 lbs) unless they are prone to weight loss or weight gain. It is worthwhile to regular check and track your players' weight to ensure a key player's physicals aren't impacted by BMI just before a crucial game!

The admins previously advised us that if players gain/loss the maximum amount (8lbs) then this would affect the training points they gain that week.

https://www.grid-iron.org/community/viewt/10399/100 (Page 11 Admin post towards bottom of screen)

"If the player gained 8 pounds in 1 week he will train with 5% less intensity - meaning he will get 5% less training points (or with other words he will get 95% of his training points) for that weeks training. Currently it is 5% from the total training points the player gets - so after all the bonuses have been added."

However Bloodbeak did extensive testing on this and found that it had no impact on training
https://grid-iron.org/community/viewt/20006

It may simply be the case that because BMI wasn't active in the game yet that the impact on training wasn't active either or it may simply not affect training points. I'm sure further testing will be done in Season 25. Personally I have always selected a maximum of +/-5lbs per week to be safe.

Hope this mini guide helps to address any queries you have about BMI and the Nutrition Centre. If you have any questions feel free to ask or send me a PM.

Excellent work, as so often, Phiba. Managers like you kept the game active even after all those years without upgrades/changes. But now that changes will come, you won't be less valuable for the community, that's for sure.

It's on a Thursday. Not sure exactly what time it happens, I just know my players have gained/lost weight when I log in on a Thursday so probably happens late on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

I'd expect 3/4am due to when the other updates happen. Might have to try and keep an eye on this for the upcoming week as I'm currently off work due to a gallbladder removal anyway. It'd be nice to have the exact timing for this.

It was originally set to 4am Thursday. But when it a) got delayed introduction and b) had bugs every now and them. I think they did it manually for a while.

Guys, have the BMI been introduced after all or not? Seems like I've lost track of that issue long ago ...
