If it's all the same to you I'm still not signing up for a 10mph smack to the balls.

Well, you do know that we have a little ball over here that folks chuck at over 100 mph and sometimes directed right at the head of the opposition. Flames is pretty passionate about a sport that uses a little disc, that sometimes can hurl at about 105 mph. 50 mph doesn't sound so bad, in this context

50mph is an amateur bowler, and a slow one at that.

the fast bowlers in professional cricket bowl around the 100mph (160km/h) mark, pretty much along the same lines as a pitcher in baseball or a slapshot in hockey.

the main difference though is that in baseball it's against the rules to hit the batter (people do it anyway and take the walk, I know, but it's frowned upon), whereas in cricket if you hit the batsman it's his own fault for not moving. the main guy getting hit with the puck in hockey is obviously the goalie and he has sizable pads on, so much more protection than a cricketer or a baseball player (although cricketers do wear leg pads).

a cricket ball is also a fair bit harder than a baseball...

finally, lol australia. trailing joe root by 64 at the close of play.

Australia - well and truly Rooted!

BTW, the other major distinction between a baseball pitch and a cricket bowl is that the ball usually also hits the ground before it gets to the batsman, so the batsman not only has to deal with swing (curve) but also which way the ball bounces.

A batsman can also hit the ball in any direction (360deg) as opposed to baseball's 90deg - thus cricket is 4 times better. Now multiply that by 2 for bounce and it's about 8 times better.

And I still don't watch cricket very often.

Don't forget baseball only lasts a matter of hours though, whereas cricket lasts for 5 days per test, so you have to divide by the boredom factor of sitting through 5 snore-inducing days of cricket.

Yeah.

But they have the mangled 20-20s as well a 1 dayers. It's not a bad way to pass a week keeping up with a test match, and when played locally a good way to spend a lunch hour (or 2 or 3) or attend after work.

Clark is announcing retirement after being told he'd be sacked anyway. No big surprise there.

That match was over after about the 4th over of the 1st innings!

Are Australia about to go the way of the West Indies?
