Game 1 is in the books.

Sweden 49 UK 63

It was a game where both offenses were on fire in the 1st half. Sweden missed a FG at the end of the half so the UK had a 28-21 lead at the break. The UK offense had an amazing 3rd quarter scoring 3 TDs to Sweden's 1. This essentially took the game away from Sweden but they did win the 4th quarter. Leonard and Gardnier both had great games. The secondary didn't do too much in the game but the defensive front got in the Swedish QB's face on quite a few occasions.

Overall a good start to the World Cup for the UK.

In the other game, Finland beat Slovenia 49-31. Finland will currently sit in 1st place with +18 PD over UK's +14 PD. These two teams face each other tomorrow.

A disastrous day 2 of the World Cup for the UK, suffering a defeat at the hands of Finland.

UK 34 Finland 49

After a stellar performance yesterday, McMillian had a poor day with 51.7% completion rate, 504 yards, 4 TDs and 2 INTs giving him a QB rating of 90.01 compared to yesterday's 149.31. Both Leonard and Gardnier were sluggish with around 57% reception success each and neither posting over 250 yards.

The defense recorded 3 sacks, 5 pressures and 1 pick but still the secondary couldn't stop the Finnish offense. Ultimately the coach will always take responsibility and Coach Phiba will freely admit that he incorrectly guessed the sides for Finland's best receiver, Uusitalo and their best CB, Narhi.

In the other Group D match, Sweden beat Slovenia 52-49. Currently the table stands as follows:

1. Finland 2-0 PD +33
2. UK 1-1 PD -1
3. Sweden 1-1 PD -11
4. Slovenia 0-2 PD -21

Tomorrow in the final games of the group Finland play Sweden and the UK play Slovenia. Technically any of the 4 teams in this group could be going through to the quarter finals. The UK will guarantee their place if they beat Slovenia and if Sweden lose to Finland or win by 9 pts less then the UK. If the unthinkable was to happen and the UK lost again then they could still go into the quarter finals but it would depend on the score in their game and the outcome of the other game.

A bad day for the UK but we are not disheartened. We will look to bounce back tomorrow and show the GI world what we are capable of!

After the final group game of the world cup, the UK are in the quarter finals!

UK 31 Slovenia 17

This win along with a Swedish loss guaranteed the UK's progression into the next stage of the competition. However it was another lacklustre performance by the UK players. The UK offense didn't score TDs in either the 1st or 3rd quarter. McMillian threw under 500 yards and his completion rate was only just over 50%. Both Leonard and Gardiner had approx 66% completion rate, but Gardiner had a particularly poor game only recording 161 yards from 12 catches. Also the OL gave up 5 pressures and 2 sacks.

The defense performed better than in the previous game. The defensive front had 6 pressures and 1 sack. There were no takeaways for the secondary today but they did hold the Slovenian QB on many occasions giving him a 37% completion rate.

Overall it's another slightly worrying performance from the UK team. However the main objective has been met and the team is in the quarter finals. The players know they can perform much better than in their previous two matches and the fans hope that the UK's stars will step up their game on the big stage. Some big teams have been dumped out of the tournament at the group stage, such as Australia, USA, Poland, Argentina and Italy. On paper the UK look to be the strongest team left in the competition, however the player's performances must improve if the UK are to win it all.

The quarter final match will be played on Sunday 12th April. The fixtures have yet to be announced but in all likelihood the UK will face Slovakia.

Another disappointing game from the UK players. Really not sure why they're not performing. McMillian picked off twice by a $70k LB and $85k CB yet our $100k CB and SF can't stop Srank a $70k WR

It's a shame as with some of the other big teams already out I thought we had a great chance. But that's just the way GI goes sometimes.
