there is no research done. results from matches are used.

I explained what it was at the start of the thread, but just look up ELO ratings on google or Wikipedia if you want more info. It's just a way of ranking teams based on actual results of games. You get more points for beating teams that are ranked much higher (so someone ranked 30th would get more points for beating someone ranked 5th than a team that was 6th would). Conversely, you lose more points for losing to a lower ranked team. The whole point is that over time the rating scores even themselves out based on multiple results. To suggest you should be ranked above another country based on beating them once is completely absurd and laughable

i was trying to use that match as an example because there seems to be no research done making me rather curious. i understand what elo ratings are but i just question what is behind it thats all.
