Haha, I thought the same thing with that return - was an obvious touchback situation. He will hear about that, no doubt. The return itself was nice (though his stiff arm went close to being a facemask penalty at the end)

Yeah, that too, but I was talking about a separate PR - not in highlights. Pretty sure that was a KR - he had 2 other PRs, both good - 11 and 13yds. The 13 yarder was the one I was referring to.

That kick return was good. But he got to the 25, got blocked then just rang sideways and lost 2 yards and ended up inside the hashes. If he pushed with all the blocking team mate around him, he would've ended up close to the 30.

It would be good to see if they can throw some balls at him in the flats as see what he could do. I don't think he is made for running between the tackles.

I did get to see his punt returns at last, and he looked like a natural in that role - even on the one where he got tripped up. Though he has done that thousands of times at fullback for the Eels (admittedly without a helmet on) and there are no fair catches in the NRL, so it should come naturally by now.

Totally agree with project's assessment of his running between the tackles. Hate to say it, but I think he lacks the power required to be an effective RB. Sure, he has a phenomenal step, but in my opinion it was the FB's blocking that really made the 53-yd run possible.

I found it amusing that the newspapers published the pic of his attempted stiff arm on the kick return, yet talked it up as if he had fended off the safety and not been rounded up there and then. Comparing a preseason debut to Bradman's cricket career might have been a slight exaggeration as well

I don't think he will make the Niners roster. But I am more than happy for him to prove me wrong.

Yeah, some of his runs seemed a bit lack lustre. But then again, some RBs just look more dynamic than others. The little guys always seem to be going a million miles per hour by comparison. He almost looked as though he was taking it a bit too easy at times!

Another play I noticed is where a WR caught a pass and it looked a little like the idea of blocking was lost on him - that's the sort of thing that could be a difference maker too.

Stats don't lie and time'll tell.

120 total yards in your first outing isn't too bad.

I saw the picture of him reaching to make what looked like a deep reception, only to find out he was fielding a punt while running back to his own line. Onya Jarryd!

Can't wait to see the highlights tonight.

And I heard he was on a $100k - wonder how much he gets out of this?

and now his own song -

Come on guys, give the guy a break. I thing it is great he has made the transition. For an Aussie NRL player to make it over there is great. Although he is not the only Aussie playing Football over there, it is just he is a high profile named NRL player that hits the news. Many of the prior Aussies playing in the BIG league games came from AFL backgrounds or alternatively Australian Grid-iron careers.

Good on him. I hope he makes it.

No way in the world he doesn't get a roster spot, even if it's just as a returner and a backup RB. He has looked decent out of the backfield as well though, so for me even after 2 games he's done enough.

I think there's a minimum wage in the NFL which is higher than $100k, although i'm not sure if that's only applicable for final roster and practice squad players.

I think final roster minimum is around $400k but not sure about practice squad. I remember thinking a few years back that this could be awesome for some players. If you were on a team as a kickoff specialist then you'd be raking in a great wage just for being able to kick the ball out the back of the endzone
