I would rank a running back's key stats like this:
1) Carrying
2) Footwork
3) Agility
4) Speed
5) Strength

Stamina is also important if you run the ball often or are going with a single primary back. Also, my rankings are subjective since it is simply from my observations since no one knows for 100% certainty what attributes contribute the most.

I differ from Cali only in 2 and 3. I don't think Footwork is part of being a RB....

I'd sooner put a guy wth 20 speed and 1 carrying at RB then a guy with 20 carrying and 1 speed... So, speed first for me!

I need to know the guy won't fumble. So, he needs to be able to carry.

Past that, I like the thunder and lightning like systems with one speed threat and one power back. So give me one guy with 14+ speed and one guy with 14+ strength. If a guy has both, then that's even better.

I'd use a 7 Carrying 10 Speed 10 Strength HB over a 4 carrying 15 Speed or 4 carrying 15 Strength. I'd use a 15 Speed, 15 Strength, 4 Carrying HB over any of the previous three though.

If it was a "Design your own Rookie" HB - He'd have 15 Speed, 12 Strength, 4+ Agility, 6+ Footwork, 7+ Carrying, 4+ vision.

EDIT - Others mention Consistency. HB is the one position on the field where I think that the lower consistency is actually better than higher consistency.

Well, Thinking about it - even though *this* season low consistency would have been fine, as there are no fumble turnovers and therefore the downside risk of having a cold day was less than the upside potential of having a hot day... but when fumbles do get implemented - then the downside risk might become greater than the upside potential.
