Kicking Question

I only started playing today, so apologies in advance for the question if it makes no sense...

There does not appear to be a separate punter position in this game - am I correct in assuming that the K position takes punts and kicks?

Is the placekicker in this game the person who places the kicks for the kicker, or is the placekicker the actual player who kicks the ball eg. for a field goal?

Do most teams have a single player who takes punts and kicks, or do most teams have a separate K player for each separate role?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the game! Yes, most teams do use the same kicker and punter. Don't waste money on two different guys. Also a lot of people will use the running backs as kick returners and cornerbacks on special teams and defense. Just one of the quirks of the game. Hope this helps. Also read the top sticky in this section. It has lots of great hints to play the game.

Thanks, it's really helpful to know how certain positions can double up like that.

Just one thing I'm still not sure on - is the placekicker role in this game the person who kicks the football on kickoffs, field goals and point afters?

Update:

I just had my first competitive match today, which I lost 7:0 in the 4th quarter with just over a minute to go on the clock. I can't complain about the result because I was playing a much stronger team and I was expecting to get thrashed, but...

I shelled out $10k for a kicker with 19 consistency, and 8 kicking and punting, 4 stars rating, 4 stars talent, 3.5 stars experience and 5 stars on team chemistry, so I was quite surprised that my kicker missed 3 out of 3 field goals, of 42 yds, 41 yds and 49 yds respectively.

Assuming that 19 consistency means that a player will almost always play to the best of their ability, this tends to suggest that a kicker with a rating of 8 on kicking is incapable of making a field goal over 40 yds.

So I'm wondering - does anyone know precisely how the kicking rating correlates with the range of successful field goal conversions. I'm just trying to get to grips with the game engine, so I can establish what sort of field goal range I can realistically expect to convert on a consistent basis with the kicker I've got.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome and well you can always get them next season or the one after that.

Buying kickers first up is frowned upon by experienced managers mostly because a FG and yardage is not as important as it seems in High School Football.
As for me I dont really think 10k is that big a deal but since you are paying 5k each week, Id suggest trying to work on his bpos at another position as well.

40 yds is the maximum distance from which a GI kicker makes a fg fairly regularly.
At around 8 kicking, punting I would try to keep the FG closer to 25-30 yards till you see him making it consistently form that distance and then increase the distance by 5 yards
GI kickers ocassionally tend to miss 18 yd Fgs but are money hitting the extra point.

So yeah think about training skills other than kicking punting and playing him in a position other than K/P in order to improve his BPOs in some other position . You can probably post his skills in the player evaluation thread or here and consider suggestions.

But in the meantime you might want to start buying vip seats first and then exec seats(Read the thread in the Newbie section about what you should do first)

Thanks, that's a really helpful response. I'll refrain from trying anything over 40 yds and see how I get on with my new kicker after that.

I'm already building VIP seating on 3 sides of the stadium, so hopefully I'll start generating enough income to cover my inflated weekly wagebill.

my 15 kicking skill kicker cannot make 45 yard kickers.

as above, i'd set you FG range higher at 40 and see how you go from their. any lower is a waste of time, as you are on the 23 yard line out (77).

otherwise a punt will result in a touchback and the opposing team starts on the 20 line.

Also, his chem will be 0.5 star.

Interestingly. it says he has been on your team for 0 weeks and has a chem of 5 - that will change next week.
