I'd have to say that footwork, speed, and strength are needed for both DE's and DT's. But the levels to which they are needed are different.

Footwork is important to both I'd say. Personally, for DE's, I like to have speed and for DT's I like more strength. And don't forget about vision, positioning, tackling, etc.

I myself go for tackling first at the DL positions. Footwork or positioning could be argued as well as the primary stat. Honestly we all have yet to perfect any kind of "build" for a given position.

i may have a pretty close to perfect DL build
Positioning 7 Tackling 7 Punting 2
Vision 7 Blocking 6 Speed 11
Intelligence 1 Passing 1 Strength 14
Footwork 7 Catching 5 Agility 7
Carrying 2 Kicking 3 Stamina 1

Got pretty good starting stats
7 positioning, tackling, vision, agility, footwork, great consistency, str and speed. also has 3.5 stars talent.
One big problem though, he is an idiot. 1 INTEL!

but Iman this kind of build , while inarguably good, won't prove what stats are necessary. Although you can evidence some good through long term training.

i agree
The thing i think may have the most impact though is natural position bonus
in both games ive played so far, the DL that is natural DLineman has gotten 8 and 7 tackles in the games.

just be careful with circumstantial evidence. it could be that he got the most tackles because your opponents ran at him.

yea but considering the other team ran the ball 18 times total and he got 7 tackles, that is pretty nice

Agreed. Great game!

But, he could come back the next and get 1 tackle while the other team runs 40 times. Not taking anything away from his game, it's just until he backs it up for a little it could always be a fluke.
