A motley crew of youngsters arrived for this week's tryouts.

We had a guy with a history of driving convictions, a DJ, either a policeman/drug dealer. Thankfully there was also a chap who does a lot of work raising funds for a cancer charity. I picked him. But he was crap.

This week's options were:
A 1980s tv actor
The husband of a TV chef
A random on twitter (seemed a bit of a knob)
A Sunderland footballer.

I went for the husband of the TV chef. 3.5 stars, 18 Intelligence. Sadly not enough to earn a stay.

That sounds like a pull worth keeping to me. Plus he can always cook if he doesn't play.

These days the thought of shelling out circa two million in wages while a player waits until he can contribute - I dunno - it seems expensive. Not that I know what I'm doing, I hasten to add.

This week's picks. There was an obvious standout candidate, alongside a bloke who had no Facebook or LinkedIn profile (surely hiding something), a former cricketer and an actor from the cast of Suits.

The standout was former Packers RB Aaron Green. However my coaching team's assessment wasn't great, and so Aaron returned to free agency.

Another diverse group of youth prospects:
- a female basketball player at the University of Iowa
- an Aussie cross country runner
- an ex-professional gamer
- a British journalist at The Observer

My PR director urged me to make a selection that would increase the team's mass appeal, so to prove there is no sexism at Ottershaw I went for the chick.

Two stars.

But she is 6 feet 2, so I wish her well in her basketball.career.

Another diverse group turned up this morning

One guy had nothing, not a single thing, on Google so he was out of contention right away.

Instead I assessed the skills of a big shot consultant at PWC, and an eight year old boy from Glasgow, before deciding on a philosopher at a Turkish university.

Initially the philosopher looked ok, at 3.5 stars, but his poor intelligence, his excessive wage demands plus his persistent questions, such as "If someone you loved was killed in front of you, but someone created a copy of them that was perfect right down to the atomic level, would they be the same person and would you love them just as much?" eventually drove me to fire him.

This week's prospects were predominantly from a sporting background, which I took as a positive.

I had to choose from a deceased footballer, a Scottish curler, a mixed martial arts fighter and the bloke who wrote Cheers.

Unable to decide between someone good at haunting/fighting/words i plumped for the curler.

Two stars.
