correct, but the admin stated earlier the safties will always cover the TE and that wrs/cbs were relegated to zones of defense.

I think it's LB's on TE's. I know it's CB's on WR's. What exactly is a slot WR? Well, whatever it is I'm guessing a safety covers it...

Wide receiver (WR) — The wide receivers are speedy pass-catching specialists. Their main job is to run pass routes and get open for a pass, although they are occasionally called on to block. A wide receiver may line up on the line of scrimmage and be counted as one of the necessary 7 players on the line in a legal formation (a split end), or he may line up at least one step behind the line of scrimmage and be counted as being in the backfield (a flanker if he is on the outside, a slot if he is not). There are generally two types of wide receivers, "speed" and "possession". A speed receiver's primary function is to stretch the field, to be a deep threat, and to pull away an eighth defensive man near the line of scrimmage from moves against the quarterback. A possession receiver is generally the more sure-handed of the two types and is used to keep possession of the ball by making catches that gain first down yardage, but he usually lacks the speed to attack a defensive backfield.

BTW, is there a way to put a link in this forum?

Both from the FAQ:

8. What is a Wide receiver?
A wide receiver is the player that runs forward and tries to make himself available so that the quarterback can pass the ball towards him. He is essentially a fast, agile player specialized in catching long passes in order to gain a significant yardage or even going for the touchdown.

2. Can I use HTML code to post pictures and/or links?
No, HTML code is not allowed. The only links allowed are the links to players and teams in Grid-Iron.

I think there is a lot of confusion because there is what happens in RL football and then what happens in Grid-Iron (how its coded). They aren't necessarily the same.

In RL football, in a standard set with 2 WRs & 1 TE, the CBs will cover the WRs (if playing man-to-man). The Strong Safety will line up across from the TE and is in run support on a running play and may cover the TE on passing plays. Sometimes the Strong Side Linebacker covers him too. The free safety usually sits back and provide deep help to either of the CBs.

Of course, on blitzing plays, any of these guys can got after the QB.

Now, in zone coverage scheme, the roles are somewhat different -- and it also depends if you're playing cover 1, cover 2, cover 3 etc.
